+ - Sandra RIVAS SIOTA (Spain)

Affiliation: Universidade de Vigo - Department Ingenieria Quimica, Facultade de Ciencias de Ourense (Spain)
Scientific Representative at DCCI: Claudia Antonetti
Visiting Period: 01.05 / 01.08 – 2022

Activity:
- Biorefinery strategies for the fractionation of lignocellulosic biomasses and the manufacture of alkyl levulinates;
- Pretreatment of the biomass Eucalyptus globulus using mixtures of water and hydrophobic organic solvents, in order to obtain an aqueous hemicellulosic-rich phase, an organic one containing lignin fragments and a solid residue rich in cellulose.
- Synthesis of long chain alkyl levulinates from the cellulose-rich residue obtained in the pretreatment employing the direct alcoholysis reaction.
- Optimization of the alcoholysis reaction in the perspective of green chemistry in the presence of acid catalysts under sustainable reaction conditions. The effect of main reaction parameters, such as catalyst type and loading, temperature, reaction time and heating methodology, were investigated on the alkyl levulinate yields and concentration.
