+ - Marcin GORECKI (Poland)

Affiliation: Institute of Organic Chemistry, Polish Academy of Sciences (Poland)
Scientific Representative at DCCI: Lorenzo Di Bari
Visiting Period: 09.01 / 31.12 - 2019

Activity:
Gol: The objective of this project was to develop, construct and demonstrate a new microsampling device (NanoCD) for a regular circular dichroism (CD) spectropolarimeter and to use it directly for solving relevant problems appearing during chiral analysis.
Results: The NanoCD for a regular CD spectropolarimeter is easy to handle tool for obtaining reliable results and solving diverse stereochemical challenges which cannot be faced with standard CD instrumentation and accessories available on market (e.g. such us measurements of CD spectra of products with limited amount of sample and characterization of solid thin films and pellets).

+ - Eva MUCHOVA (Repubblica Ceca)

Affiliation: University of Chemistry and Technology Prague (UCT), Prague, CZ
Scientific Representative at DCCI: Benedetta Mennucci
Visiting Period: 01.10.2019 / 30.09.2020

Activity:
The research activity focuses on modelling techniques for novel X-ray spectroscopies in the liquid phase. A key and novel part of the research is to adapt the state-of-the-art schemes for the description of environmental effects developed in Mennucci’s laboratory (MOLECoLab) and to bring them into a new domain. The modelling combines polarizable embeddings (both implicit, dielectric, models and explicit Molecular Mechanics, MM, models) with high-level quantum mechanical descriptions and molecular dynamics simulations. The model and simulation protocols will allow interpretation of experimental data obtained by X-ray spectroscopy, assessment of reactivity of ionized molecules in solvated systems and prediction of accurate energetics.
